Whats an Alaskan Malamute's energy level?
I'm an active person I love to hike, camp, snowshoe, and I wanna get into skijoring. Right now I have a newfie and because she's so big and heavy she can't keep up (she is getting old too). Would a Malamute be able to do all these activities and still come home and NOT be hyperactive like a border collie? I want an active dog, not hyper, good in the cold, and friendly towards all people. Also know of any malamute rescues in the utah area?

If Malamutes are even remotely similar to Siberian huskies, you will have to always have a leash on the dog if you go for hikes/walks as they WILL roam for miles and are extremely stubborn. My cousins used to have a Malamute and he would do the same thing - and he also did not get along with other small pets and was dog-aggressive.
Unless you have a large yard (and I mean an acreage or farm) or are exercising him to the amount he needs then a Malamute is definitely not a dog to get. They're a sled dog, and need to work and burn energy or else they become problematic.
