Why are left-handed people able to hit a ball holding a bat in their right hand?
Why are left-handed people able to hit a ball holding a bat in their right hand? I'm left-handed, and when I play some sports, I hold the bat in my right hand. When I try to hit with my left, I feel that my balance is off.
Few people are totally right- or left-handed and we all have some degree of ambidexterity. When doing something like hitting a ball, there are other factors involved. One is whether you are right or left footed (yes, there is such a thing, and it dictates, among other things, the way you place your feet when you start to run. Check it out sometime. If you naturally start with your left foot, you will feel very awkward starting with your right foot.) and thus which way you are facing when you are at the plate, and also which is your dominant eye, as one eye is dominant over the other.
When you combine these factors, it gives quite a bit of scope to the notion of being right- or left-handed.
