egg parachutes - something like the mars landing!?
right, we've got this competition and all we have is :
1) An A3 sheet of bubble wrap
2) An A3 sheet of Crepe paper
3) An A2 sheet of corrugated cardboard
4) string
5) tape
6) blu tack
7) 2 balloons
8)15 rubber bands
got to be dropped from a 2ndfloor window without the egg breaking. not only parachtes any other designs welcome

also extra marks are given for getting the egg out of the contrraption without harming it
If you're gonna be dropping the egg from a second floor window, on it's own, the egg would be going a fair speed by the time it hits the ground. parachute is really good for limiting the speed of fall. But you've still got a small impact when it hits the ground. Crumple zones, and anything else which increase the length of time/distance over which the egg takes to stop, reduce the intensity of the impact, and improve the chance of the egg surviving.

A possibility for slowing the fall, is maybe you could trap some air, and burn something to make a hot air balloon. (the air bag/envelope can be open at the bottom, as hot air wants to rise) You'd want the lift to just less than the weight of the contraption, to allow it to fall slowly (you don't want it floating off into the distance!)
