What is a good ear wax removal kit I can get over the counter that actually works!!?

I always seem to get an ear infection in my left ear every 4-6 months and my Dr. said it's due to wax build up. He usually flushing my ears with Warm Water but I need to start using something that will help "prevent" recurring ear infections. Thx in advance.

Ear candles are a joke and dangerous. You asked for a preventive, not a cure.

To prevent wax buildup, put a few drops of mineral oil, baby oil, or olive oil in one ear while laying on your side so it doesn't drip out. Leave it in there a minute or two, then turn over and let it drain onto a paper towel or a towel you can wash. Then do the other ear. It helps if you warm the oil a little, but not much above body temperature. Putting something cold in your ear will cause a truly strange dizzy spell. Wipe the extra oil off the outside of your ear, but don't stick anything into it. Wrap a paper towel or Kleenex around your finger to dab the oil. Don't stick anything in your ear that is smaller than that.

Doctors and nurses freak about Q-tips and syringes that shoot streams into your ears, because it is so easy to break your eardrum. This is a cheap and simple maintenance thing that they don't object to. The only thing you need to buy is the oil and the dropper, and most people have olive oil or mineral oil in their house.

The over the counter kits are either peroxide or oil based. Doctors don't like the peroxide ones because they involve squirting your ear with a syringe. You may be able to find an oil-based one that works the same as I have described above, but why bother?
