Who were the first catchers to wear protective gear?
I'm watching "Eight Men Out" and the catcher is wearing a Face Mask & Chest Protector. I didn't think they were used in 1919. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought Mickey Cochrane or Bill Dickey were the 1st to wear shin guards.
According to this website it was being developed in 1886. There was a comic that was drawn mocking it.
