Is an inflatable canoe/kayak made of PVC any good ...?

Me and my cousin want to buy an inflatable canoe/kayak and it says it's constructed of highly durable PVC. What I want to know is would it be any good on a canal? Because of the oils form boats in it? Thanks in advance.

I've used 2 different inflatable brands and have had great results with both. I've been able to use one in extreme cold and the other in extreme heat (100+ degrees). Both have survived brushing up against rocks, tree branches and being dragged up on less than manicured beaches and shores.
