What is the cost of a pressure test for a gas line for meter installation?

I actually am Salties husband. An Insurance adjuster working Ike in the Houston area. My insureds are experiencing unreal pricing for a gas test that is required by the gas compony to resume service. I figured it would be no more than a service charge. and a permit should not be required because the gas company is only trying to make sure no damage has been done to existing lines. Thanks for the input.

For a pressure test of a gas system that doesn't have the meter already set, I charge $250. I have to purchase a permit from the city, and perform the pressure test. I also have to check for any code violations, and repair any I find. If the system has any leaks, then we have to find and repair the leaks. The system has to hold the test overnight. Then an inspection is called for the next day. If the house is vacant, then me or another one of my employees has to wait for the inspector to check the guage. If there is no one at the house, and the inspector can't get in to check the system and the guage, we receive a red tag, which means we have to pay a fine, and reschedule the inspection for the next day. Only a master plumber can perform the gas test, and when all code violations are remedied, and the system holds the test, will the inspector pass the test by issuing a green tag. He then releases the address to the gas provider, for gas service. Good luck!
