Snow Size

Can I use snow tires size 195/65 on a car that has 195/60? Anyone know the tire pressure for 195/65/15?

My car comes with tires sized 195/60/15 psi 30. I got two front snow tires that are 195/65/15. Is this difference bad? And how do I know the tire pressure for the 195/65s? Think they are low.

1. NEVER use winter tires on just the front axle. This actually makes the vehicle more unstable in severe weather and is probably worse than just having all-season tires on all four wheels. The problem is while your front tires are biting and you are thinking everything is fine your rear tires are floating on top of the snow and will suddenly break loose on you causing a snap spin from which you will not have time to recover. Best case is you end up in the ditch. Worst case is you hit something solid or something solid hits you. All those cars you see in the ditch in the winter are there because they lost traction at the rear axle.

2. Never mix tire sizes on a FWD vehicle. If your vehicle takes P195/60R15 87_ sized tires then putting on P195/65R15 89_ sized tires changes the overall diameter of the tire (which can cause problems if you have ABS or traction control). It also changes the handling characteristics of the vehicle as it was engineered to work best with a lower profile tire.
