FSX. Aircraft Cannot reach cruise speed.?
I am having some trouble in Flight Simulator X. I see the cruise speeds while reading about the aircraft. However, I always get an overspeed alert long before I reach the "cruise speed", at seemingly any altitude. Also, why can't the aircraft go as fast at higher altitudes as they do closer to sea level?
Your probably still using manual thrust. After you take off, you climb, and your nose pitches up, as that occurs, your speed slows down. It's the opposite when you pitch down, the speed increases. To solve this, use autothrottle. In front of you should be the MCP, it's what controls the Autopilot and Autothrottle. Below one of the knobs should read IAS/Mach, change that to your desired speed. Then arm the autothrottles and press the SPD button (varies among aircraft.) This will tell the aircraft to maintain a specific speed as long as autothrottle is on. As for the second part of your question, I think your still reading off the IAS. As you increase in altitude, the air density decreases meaning the pitot tube "which measures airspeed" won't get the correct readings (that's why people use mach instead of IAS at high altitudes.) Most aircraft have the TAS or true airspeed on the PFD or ND somewhere, which tells you your actual airspeed, not the incorrect reading. If you can't find it, I know there's a formula somewhere, I just can't remember it.
