What kind of turtle/tortoise is this (Picture included)?

My dad almost ran it over so he took it home with him. Right now, it's in an old fish tank we don't use. We put a water dish, some spinach and romaine in it. Also, I noticed it had some brown liquid coming out of its mouth. What could it be?
Definitely an eastern box turtle. You should get in contact with your local wildlife center. He will need to be rehabbed by a professional. Usually I would tell you to release him. (It is illegal is the majority of areas to remove them from their habitat.) However, you mentioned a brown liquid coming out of his mouth? That is the part that worries me...he could have a respiratory problem or some other illness or infection. It is for that reason that I would seek a professional, someone who is trained to help wild animals without them becoming dependent on the human caregiver. This way he can be safely released once they are sure he is better. Good luck.
