Volkl Mantra Skis: An Honest Review
Volkl Mantra skis are one of the best Alpine Skis for advanced to expert skiers.
There are few all-mountain skis out there. Usually, an all-mountain ski excels at bumps, but performs at a less than stellar level through the crud. Or the exact opposite happens: you can float through fresh tracks all morning, but by the time the afternoon rolls around, the skis can't plow through choppy conditions.
On the other hand, you have the Volkl Mantra skis.
Volkl Mantras have a wide waist for floating through powder, 133mm tips for barreling through choppy snow, and are incredibly responsive all-mountain skis.
One run on these and you'll never buy another brand of skis again.
While the Mantras were built for untouched powder conditions, many owners have found them to excel in almost any snow conditions.
The exception? Volkl Mantra skis are not made for sharp turns. This means that you should probably avoid using Volkl Mantras for tight tree-skiing. So, for all you east coast ski bums, this means you need to find a different pair of skis to meet your needs.
But still, deep powder, all-mountain skis are not made for being used on the east coast. They're made for the back bowls of Colorado, Utah, and British Columbia.
If you're a beginning skier, don't even consider these skis. Buy a pair of K2 True Luv's instead.
Okay, I know what you're thinking… there must be something else bad about these skis besides the fact that they cannot make super sharp turns through tightly gladed terrain.
And yeah, you're right. The decals peel off easily. That's it.
But seriously, who cares if the design won't stick around for years? In terms of fun and functionality as an all-mountain ski for the Rocky Mountains, the Volkl Mantra ski dominates the competition. You won't regret buying one.
If you're hesitant, just demo it and try this bad boy out on a 5 inch powder day. You won't ever ski another brand again.
